ANSWERS TO UPHOLSTERY PAINT QUESTIONS

Will it work on awnings/umbrellas or other assorted outdoor things?

Yes, Upholstery Paint will work on most fabric awnings as long as the awning can absorb water. The best use we've seen is spraying outdoor furniture and patio cushions!

Will the paint fade in the sun?

The paint should not fade in normal sun conditions, so it will work great on any indoor or outdoor item which will be in direct sunlight.

Will it make the fabric stiff?

The paint itself will not make your fabric stiff, but the fabric might hold excess paint and change the texture of the fabric. You can use a bristle brush and a rag to loosen the fibers and release the excess dried paint. Also, i f you'd like to see it in action check out our video of the upholstery fabric paint on the Morning Show which features a soft pillow sprayed with the 'burnt orange' color.

Can I paint my red couch blue?  (assorted color combinations)

In order for the paint to work properly, the material you are painting must be lighter than the color of the paint you are using. You can paint a tan couch black, but you can’t paint a black couch tan. The paint is not opaque so it cannot make darker colors lighter or completely cover over prints on fabrics unless you are spraying a much lighter couch and dark color.

Will it rub off onto your clothing?
The paint should adhere into the fabric and after 72 hours it should not rub off. See our pictures of people sitting on recently sprayed furniture on our various product pages. If for some reason the paint rubs off, it is because there is excess paint between the fibers that did not absorb into the material, but this only occurs rarely. You can use a bristle brush and a dry rag to wipe the extra paint. You can also use a hair dryer to speed the drying process if 72 hours is too long to wait.

Can you wash it?
Yes, you can wash as you would any other fabric or upholstery items. You should not use any type of liquid or sheet fabric softener. Fabric softener breaks down the pigments in the paint. Wait 72 hours before washing for the first time. We do not recommend dry cleaning.

Can I use this product indoors or does it have strong fumes?

Upholstery paint is very similar to Simply Spray with a stronger binder. It is non-toxic, non-flammable and has no fume odors. Actually, it has a very mild smell which is not offensive. The propellant in the can is very safe and is the same propellant used with food, such as whip cream.  Also, the propellant itself is odorless. Although, occasionally you may smell a faint paint odor if you are using a large number of cans indoors, just open a few windows and it should disappear. If you have sensitivities, you should use the product in a ventilated area, such as a patio or backyard, to be on the safe side.

I am planning to use this product outdoors, will it ruin my grass if I get paint on it?

We always recommend that you cover your work area just to be on the safe side. Simply Spray is not harmful if you get some on your grass, but it should be avoided. It will change the color of your grass temporarily, but should disappear after some time goes by. If you would like to get rid of it more quickly, than try spraying down the grass with a hose or other water spraying device.

What happens if I get Upholstery Spray on my skin?
You can wash the upholstery spray paint off as you would any other kind of paint with soap, warm water and a wash cloth.

This does not spray like any other spray paint I have used, why?

Upholstery has a patented spray mechanism and is designed to use specifically with our products. In order for it to work properly, the trigger requires you to pull back rather than push down. Also, keep in mine that the paint is not propelled by the harmful gases used in regular spray paint.

Can your upholstery paint be used on cellular shades?

Yes, people have used Upholstery Paint on cellular shades with great success! As long as the fabric is absorbent to water, and lighter than the color paint you want to use, the paint should work.

What happens if the can freezes during shipping?
Upholstery Paint is freeze/thaw stable. If the product freezes, it should still function when thawed, just leave it out on the counter until is it no longer frozen.

ANSWERS TO GENERAL SIMPLY SPRAY QUESTIONS

How do I stop the paint from leaking through to the back of the shirt?

There is an easy way to avoid this, spray in light layers and do not soak the shirt. Move the can very slowly across the shirt while you are spraying and do not leave the can spraying in one spot. Also, try putting a piece of cardboard inside the shirt so there is a barrier between the layers.

Will it rub off the fabric?

If you wait a full 72 hours to dry, the paint shouldn't rub off at all. However, if the material you are painting is not fully absorbent, there may be excess paint that did not absorb into the fibers, so you should wipe the fabric with a rag to remove any excess paint after 72 hours just in case.

Will the paint fade in the sun?

The paint should not fade in the sun if exposed to normal weather conditions. If it happens to fade over a long period of time, you can spray it new! You should not use any type of liquid or sheet fabric softener. Fabric softener breaks down the pigments in the paint.

Do you have a paint that will glow under blacklight?

Not at this time, the only paint that we have that works under blacklight is the Simply Spray Brite Pink.

Do you have a glow in the dark paint?

No, we do not have any flow in the dark paint yet.

Can I wash my painted shirt with other garments, or will it run?

The first time you wash your shirt you should wash it separately, but after that, washing it with like colors is recommended. Remember, do not use any type of liquid or sheet fabric softener. Fabric softener breaks down the pigments in the paint which is not ideal. Also, try to  wash your garments inside out and make sure you wait 72 hours before washing for the first time. We do not recommend dry cleaning.
